HS2 Main Trace Earthworks
Delivery of 1.2 km of HS2 main rail trace earthworks from formation through to finished level, within the required tight design tolerances as well as rectification of the Colne Valley Viaduct transition zone.

Formation to Finished Level.
Swift Earthworks supported the completion of approximately 1.2 km of HS2 main rail trace, extending from the Colne Valley Viaduct towards the Chiltern tunnels.
Works included setting out, machine-control support, layer checks, daily as-built surveys and level verification from formation to finished level. Materials including 6F6, 6F8 and stabilised 6E chalk were placed and compacted, with NDM and EV2 testing coordinated to ensure compliance with design specifications.
The trace was delivered to a tolerance of ±10 mm at finish level through close coordination with the site team and testing subcontractors.

UTS (Universal Total Station) used in situations where formation/finish level tolerances are small (+/- 5 to 10mm) or in areas where GPS connectivity is poor.
Layer thicknesses and roll sequences are trialled prior to fill works to ensure compaction and compliance with specifications - in situ tests (NDM/CBR/EV2 etc) verify compliance.
